This process of being an owner builder has been a learning experience.. the internet can convince you every decision is wrong. We (my wife) selected a thin glass tile that will require at minimum a 1/4+ screed built up on the shell to give the correct depth of the finished tile to be installed leaving 1/2 +inch for plaster allowing a smooth transition. There are dozens of opinions of materials to use but no real consistency. We will set the tile in laticrete 254 and some people have suggested using a skim coat of the setting material then waterproofing and a final install layer of 254 to install the tile. Others say a product like rapid set will be ok. The tile we selected was very expensive and we have 200 square feet to install so I want the best long term solution and at this point am not concerned about the cost.
Thanks in advance for the input and help
