Just had a Raypak Bronze ASME 266 heater installed to replace my rusted out Raypak. Purchased unit from an individual that did not install it. I hired a local HVAC company that specializes in Hayward equipment. The Raypak came with an Outdoor Stack 009835. The guys that installed it said the stack was missing a top and that rain and leaves would get inside. They called the manager who said it does not need a top. I have searched as much as I can and cannot find anything about if it should have a top. I haven't tried to remove it yet and see if the Pagoda from my old Raypak 266 would fit this new unit. Does anyone have an Outdoor Stack that can tell me if it does or does not have a top? You can see that they placed the heater on top of some of the PVC and fountain valve. :(

You have a draft hood designed for indoor installations. The section you have is designed to be connected to a custom vent pipe with a vent cap on the top.

The guys who you had install it are hacks.

Being that close to those bushes, you need the outdoor stack.

One has a coating, one doesn't.

Well, I had to pay another $437 to get the pool people to come back and move my heater back onto my cement pad. They had to rework some of the PVC piping to be able to get the ProTek Shield to be installed. They came on a day that was raining, so they couldn't test for leaks, so sure enough it leaks.

I was able to use my pagoda from my old Raypak, so I am happy about that. I hope that they connected the ProTek Shield anode correctly, as it is different from the instruction manual. Hoping someone much more knowledgable than me can confirm one way or another.

I have now paid this company $937 for installation; hope they come back and fix the leaks.

Here is where they took a wire that was already present and connected that to the ProTek Shield.

The wire was wrapped around here when delivered:

Installers took that wire and attached it to the ProTek unit:

Here the wire is attached to the bottom of the ProTek Shield with the wing nut:
