Hi Everyone I have a Raypak heater. I tried to kick it on and received an ILO message a couple times. Finally I heard it light however I saw a flame at the bottom of the unit. I pulled off the cover and noticed a large oragne flame around the pilot assembly. I quickly turned off the heater.

Does anyone have an idea what would cause this?

There should be a bracket attached to the pilot assembly with screws so you can remove all the pilot tubing and assembly then you should check for any loose fittings on and around the end. Also wire brush it to clean it up there is also an orfice inside the pilot assembly make sure that is cleaned out too using a small wire strand should fit in it
