After 3 months of using our new Raypak propane heater, I went to fire up the spa and noticed that it wasn’t heating with a “no pilot sensed” error. On opening the cabinet, I noticed the pilot was indeed lighting so i popped off the control and checked the flame sensor test points with a multimeter (looked good). On flipping the board over, I discovered the attached photos. It looks like an insect shorted out two pads and became entombed in melted resins
. A true hardware bug!
This seems like a design that could be improved upon (better sealing, factory coating, etc), and can’t believe it doesn’t happen more frequently. Has anyone used something like GulfCoat after install to protect their control boards? Thinking about applying this after they come out to fix it.
