Hi Folks, my raypak 406A seemingly has met its end of life- see pic below.

The pool company is pushing the Jandy JXI 400k OR Pentair Mastertemp. Both same price price and same warranty - 3 years for $4900 installed.

My question is, how hard is to replace the burner tray on the Raypak? He isn’t willing to do it and I’m not sure I have the appetite for DIY unless it’s very straightforward. Are there techs who would take this repair on, and is it worth the cost:years I would get out of this repair?

@swamprat69 what do you think? Cost effective?

Get the MasterTemp over the Jandy. The MasterTemp will be easier to DIY repairs.

Pretty major repair even if all of the parts needed are available and you can find a technician who is capable of doing the work needed correctly. Damage probably extends beyond what is shown in your photo. Would not recommend attempting to repair.

I am in the same boat as you - the burner tray has completely rusted. My pool guy is willing to install a new burner tray without a warranty. Trying to see if it's worth it to install a new burner tray @ 20% of the cost of a new heater
im also in the same boat as you now. my burner tray is completely rusted out. wondering how everything worked out for you, did you end up replacing your burner tray or the entire unit? very interested to know what your thoughts are on this....

As I meantioned before, there is a very high probability that the damage extends beyond just the burner tray. Attempting repair by someone who is not thoroughly trained in ALL safety precautions needed to make the repair competently would be a big mistake and might result in a hazardous condition.
