This season I decided to close the pool myself and honestly wasn’t that hard. Last year I paid nearly $300 to close and opened it myself earlier this year and knew what needed to be done.

I brought a new pool cover this year however, this one is defective (small holes) and I have received a new cover that I’ll be replacing with later today.

I put in two pillows under the cover, I did the same last year and it worked perfectly but wasn’t tied down and they ended up drifting to the sides of the pool. That way I had the pump on the center and was able to drain most of the water out.

This year I tied down the pool pillows near the center but didn’t really think about where to place the pool cover pump.

Because I am going to replace the pool cover today, should I remove one of the pillows and only keep one under the cover?

If I place the pillow in the center, where exactly do I leave the pool cover pump? The water tends to accumulate on the edges and I sometimes have to help the water get to the pump with a broom but I want to make this as easy as possible for myself.

Some water on the cover is fine. A couple inches helps keep the cover from billowing in the wind. With the pillows you'll have a moat around the outside. Put the pump on a upside down Frisbee or storage container lid to allow some water to collect. As an added bonus, there's less risk of pumping pool water through the cover if it gets saturated and let's water through, or if any rips / holes/ tears happen.
