Raising TA without raising pH

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but how to I raise TA without affecting PH? It seems like I am stuck in a vicious cycle where, every time I lower PH, I affect TA, but when I raise TA this then in turn also raises PH. So this morning my PH was 7.4 but TA was 90 (minimum should be 100). So I was told to add 400 g of baking soda. But I know this will take the PH over 7.6 as it did so last time. Any ideas? Does it matter if TA is slightly lower than it should be? Is it more important to have PH where it needs to be?

Sounds like you're being poolstored. They like to mess with stuff that doesn't need messing with. Then they can sell you the down X to counteract the too much up X they sold you. It's a neverending and very profitable roller coaster.
(minimum should be 100)
Says who ?

Why ?

Is it more important to have PH where it needs to be?
Any 7 is equally OK, and any TA 60- 100 is equally OK for your vinyl pool using chlorine and not tabs.

Don’t listen to the person who told you that.

but not having much experience with these things you always feel nervous not following their advice.
You've been here for a year today.

Time to start taking control of your pool. It's stupid easy. We'll help. Read up the links above and ask away. :)

Yeah true, but last summer in NZ was not a summer. We had so much rain that I spent the entire time worrying about pool stability. Kids didn't want to use the pool much as it wasn't hot outside. This year we are getting proper use out of the pool, I am happy with its set up, so now focusing on chemistry. But yes I'll definitely be using resources available here. :)
