quick question about repairing a couple of small holes from rust

np i ordered some from
amzn and will come tmr. and if i need more will get from aap. Also due to the crazy rain schedule, is it ok to leave the pool with no liner for a few days? the top rails and stabilizer tracks will still be on to maintain stability. long story due to weather, helpers schedule and rust that i need to fix. (plan to cut the old liner out and fix the rust when the weather is good this friday but wont fully do it until
monday bc of rain on sat/sun)
Leave the bottom of the liner to protect the bottom from the rain

I would say yes. A few years ago my pool sat for a good chunk of the winter empty. The liner was leaking. Once I figured that out I just let it leak down over the winter. If you're worried about the walls blowing down, you can attach straps to the windward side of the wall and anchor them. You might have to redo some of the sand on the bottom before you put the new liner in. I also strongly recommend a liner pad before the new liner is in, if you don't have one already.
Hey just finished saturday and all went according to plan. will post pics hopefully monday or tuesday. pool is currently being filled. havent done skimmer and return yet bc i wanted to make sure the water level is high enough.
Thanks Crokett and other!

Hello! All done! NGL I am pretty satisfed, despite the fact that the bottom isn't super flat. There are some wrinkles and footprints lol. But here are the pics:

This is the pool with pre liner being drained:

This is what part of the pool looked like when the liner is off:

Hole patched. I patched a few more spots. This is the worst rust area:
we had help from this corgi:

fixing with POR-15:

fixing with POE-15:

with wall foam:

-We already played a game of volleyball in the pool.
-We ended up not using the foam cove and bottom liner. Heard bad things about the foam cove and that a sand cove is better. since we did't use the foam cove, we decided not to use the bottom liner pad.

I am sure a pro would do a better job but for a DIY, Im not complaining. Thanks for watching and for all your help!

DONE! Well done as well! Glad you were already able to have fun in it!

Good job not using the wall foam. To me it would just hold the "sweat" against the wall causing more rust.
Thanks! We actually did use the wall foam. We didn't use the foam cove and bottom pad. Since the walls had some sheet metal repairs even with duct tape, we felt it was better just to use the wall foam. Hopefully the POR-15 will slow down the future rust. Highly doubt we will ever do this again lol!

Look’s fantabulous 🤩
Is the noodle string thing for a game?
Where all the rust “lines” were at were there wrinkles in the liner there?

Thanks so much!! we had a 4 vs 3 vb game so the noodles made the playable area smaller and more manageable. They serve as boundaries. i just noticed the current position in the water isnt how we set it up lol. the kids moved them to play some HORSE in the water.

yes the reason why there were all those original wrinkles is bc of the rust that dissolved from the moisture and coating. the walls still feel solid so we cleaned the rust off and used POR15 which works wonders so big kudos to Crokett!

also we did test the water chemistry and had to lower the ph before shocking. we will prob transition to pristine blue as recommended by my neighbor

Interesting about the wrinkles as I have developed many.
About the pristine blue- stay away 🛑
It is an expensive system that adds copper to your water (you don’t want copper in your water) & claims you can run lower fc levels while also requiring you to use clarifier/floc (because the water gets cloudy due to low fc), enzymes (to combat the funk not eliminated by low fc levels), sequesterants (to compensate for all the copper), dichlor (which increases cya quickly & is very acidic) & “trade secret” mystery potions. While also selling you useless guess strips to “maintain” the charade.

All these things & problems they cause can be eliminated by just maintaining adequate & sanitary fc levels in relation to your cya. FC/CYA Levels
& adhering to recommended levels What Are My Ideal Pool Levels?

Stick with the
Pool Care Basics & get a proper test kit
Test Kits Compared so you can know where you stand & accurately give your pool what it needs, when it needs it- no more no less.

If you are developing wrinkles in the sidewalls I am guessing like in my case there are rust slurries forming. kinda yucky tbh.

interesting about the pristine blue! good thing i didnt order any. what I am going to do more diligently is check my water chemistry and apply needed chems correctly and on time.

I fear this to be true. In the south here my pool sweats alot!
It is also buried on one side. Alot of my wall wrinkles are from the liner being too loose in the first place but it took so long to get my pool installed I didn’t want to have to drain & make them fix it so I will just live with them until I get a new pool if the liner lives that long.

Be sure you get a taylor k2006/k2006c or tf100/pro to test with. They are the only ones that have all the important tests.
(Fas/dpd for testing fc&cc’s separately up to 50ppm & cya + ph,ta,ch). They look complicated but they really aren’t.

Horizontal wrinkles in the liner on the walls are caused by long term exposure to low pH. Before TFP I used to run 2 floaters with 4 pucks each trying to keep ahead of algae and I never tested my water. The pucks will lower the pH and I was loading up on them every week. I had tons of horizontal wrinkles in my liner. Once you get those wrinkles they don't go away.

I have never had low ph except the first week of owning this pool when I was adjusting ta & it never went below 7.2 so I really don’t think ph caused any of my problems.
My liner was literally billowing in places because it was so loose. I did mention it to them & they said “oh that will shrink up”. It did eventually shrink up/get compressed some alright & formed a million wrinkles! Their response concerned me that having them reset the liner wouldn’t result in any better results so I just opted to live with it. Me & pool are now both a little saggy with wrinkles lol 😂

Hi everyone! Been just over a year and wanted to update that the self installed liner, albeit some wrinkles, has been working great! We play VB practically everyday but not today b/c the kids and wife went to Dorney Park and I am home with the pool and our corgi. Last season b/c of the new water and rain it was very hard initially to maintain the correct chemistry and the pool turned cloudy a week or two later. But after much liquid chlorine (I guess SLAM) we got it back to clarity and this season it has just be sparkling! The past week or two when it was 90+ in NY, the pool has
been a fantastic relief!
Hope everyone is having a nice summer!
