Hi all. My wife has been asking me for a while to upgrade our spa so she can control it with an app on her phone, and I saw there is an Upgrade kit for the CP3810 from Pentair for EasyTouch, and then ScreenLogic can be added. I have an inground spa with very old single speed pumps that I am going to replace. 2 pumps, one for the filter and one for the jets. From what I've read so far online it looks like the Easytouch system really only plays well with Variable Speed Pumps made by Pentair? Is this correct? Asking because they are pretty pricey. I'm assuming the Easytouch system can control a regular single speed pump, which I can use for the Jets, but I would like a variable speed pump for the filter and don't want any communication issues. Other things that will be on the EasyTouch are a Raypak heater and a Blower. No pool on this system, spa only.

It is best to use a Pentair pump as you will know for sure that the EasyTouch will communicate with it...
Pentair is the gold standard for pool pumps and they charge for it.
I would use a VS pump for your circulation pump and then use your current single speed pump for your spa jets..

Look into what it will cost you for the EasyTouch Upgrade + Screenlogic versus an IntelliCenter system that has networking built into it at no extra cost. You get a modern system that is supported and updated for not much additional money.
Thanks for the confirmation, I was hoping to avoid the price tag, but I know sometimes you get what you pay for.
I probably should have looked more into the Intellicenter but didn't want to go through the headache of removing the old system and already got the upgrade parts. Total was about $1300 so not too bad.

I'd love to upgrade to the new IntelliCenter, but just so I could help better here at TFP... It would not do anything that my current EasyTouch can't do right now.. It is definitely a better system, with all kinds of better options, but for just the basic pool/spa operation, the EasyTouch works just fine.
Allen, Just to be clear, the Doc is upgrading from an old ComPool system to an EasyTouch control card, but he will still be using the original cabinet and relays...

I know, and eventually those old relays can be a problem. There becomes a time to start fresh and I was pointing it out but the purchase has already been made.

I'm looking at the Intelliflo3 1.5hp or 3.0hp models. Not sure I need all the power of the 3hp, it's a 1300 gallon spa and this would be going through a cartridge filter, raypak heater, and returning to the pool through 4 jets after a 5-6ft vertical climb. May try to add a SWG in the future. Was also looking at the IntellifloXF 2.1 HHP 3.95 THP as well though I know that model is a bit older which falls in the middle pricewise. Not sure what your experience is with all of those, but any opinions?

Here is my answer, but you won't like it..
I never recommend any 1.5 HP VS pumps.. You can always turn a big pump down, but you can't always turn a small pump up..
I don't think the size of your spa, or pool, really matters when looking at VS pumps.. It has more to do with the size of the pipes and the flow needed.
That said, you really need someone that can give you an actual answer to your question..

Not sure it fits your particular situation, but my Dad taught me that when you buy a good tool, you smile every time you use it. When you buy the cheaper tool, you cry every time you use it...

Either of these pumps would probably work just fine but I would go for the larger versions.
Spas can be very tricky and the amount of flow you need depends on many factors. Spa jets used, pipe size, head loss in pad equipment, etc. So without going into a detailed analysis on what your spa may actually need, a larger VS pump like the Intelliflo3 or IntellifloXF just makes it easier because you can dial in exactly what is needed.
FWIW, for the same flow rate, the larger pumps are going to be quieter too.

Thanks a lot, explains why my friends with only pools thought my pumps were overpowered, since they're not used to spa setups. Went with the Intelliflo3 3hp.

One of the great things about the IntelliFlo3 is that it comes with pump unions, which make the install much easier..
Also, you can control the pump with an app, until you get your automation upgraded.
Did you every try running the spa with out the blower to see how well it works???

I haven't tried the jets out yet, I'm still repairing my DE filter so that I can run the spa until all my materials get here, and then I have to work out a good time for my cousin who is very handy with pool plumbing and electrical to come help me do things right. Once I minimize the leaks on the filter I'll get things running to test it out.
Ok, I installed my EasyTouch Upgrade for my Compool and have a couple questions. One is, my filter pump was plugged into a jumper marked Filter on the Compool, but the new card doesn't have anything with that name. Options are Pump or Spa, does it matter which I plug the Filter pump into? Second, for some reason they have a wire on the old card connecting Solar to Aux Valve Control, however there is nothing solar in the system and no valves that are opening or closing. Any idea why they would have done that? Picture below.

The card should have 7 Aux relay connections and one marked Pump/Filter or something like that. They should all be in a single row..
Let me see if I can find a pic..
It should be the one marked "Pump".
Keep in mind that the upgrade does not understand that you just have a spa, it assumes you have a connected Pool and Spa. Just think of your spa as a pool and all will be well..

Ok thanks, I plugged into the pump port, looks like I don’t need to use the spa connection at all. It also had me move the j25 jumper and do a factory reset to put it in single body mode. Hopefully it all works as intended once I get my filter up and running.

Do you know if I'm able to hook more than one thing up to the COM port? I have my Indoor Control Panel hooked up to the screw COM port currently. Initially, as it's phone wire with RJ11 connections, I cut off the RJ11 connector and wired it to the Indoor Control Panel correctly, then plugged in the RJ11 into the COM port on the EasyTouch Board but got nothing on the display. I cut off the connector and wired it to the board and that is working, but now I have to hook up Screen Logic which also requires a 4 wire COM port connection.
