question for robtic users ?

Hello to all,

The power supply for almost all robotics gets really hot during use. W the temp's being over 100 in Texas, is it safe to operate your pool robot in 100+ degree heat? Also, unless it's winter, I always operate my Shark in the shade, or place something in front of it to prevent the sun from hitting it directly.

I know for my Dolphin E10 they say the box should never be exposed to sun light.

Mine has to be as the sun hits right in the gfi plug area most of the day, so
I cover it with a small piece of mdf board to keep the sun off of it.

As long as the direct sun is not on the box, should be ok I would think.

My caddy & power supply are always in the shade under an awning. No direct sun exposure but I was running my when we were in the middle of our June heat wave - 115F daily temps.

I keep mine under one of the umbrellas at the pool to keep direct sun off it.

Thanks Guys - our GFCI plug is on a stucco wall about 10-12 ft from pool...around 3pm it starts to take full sun and stucco REALLY HEATS UP. I elevate the tip of one end of the power supply on a 1" tall mat to help air circulate better on the bottom where it really heats up.

Pretty much agree that no direct sunlight is a given, but I was seeking practical experience if anyone had any problems running their robot in excessive heat...thanks again

What would be really smart on the part of Dolphin is if they could work on a power supply module that could be hooked up to the various automation systems out there (Pentair, Hayward, Jandy) so that you could just plug the robot into a box hanging near the automation center with serial communication between the automation controller and the cleaner power supply. Seems like a great opportunity for both manufacturers considering that Dolphin builds robots for specific vendors anyway....
