Question about shocking bromine

Get reagent R-0003 and add 5 drops after the solution goes colorless and see if it goes back to pink and then titrate back to colorless.

I apologize for all of the dumb questions, but I'm not sure how this would work with my bromine spa. I don't use R-0871, I use R-0872. Do I need to get R-0871 too? What is the difference between the two?

Honestly, I think the likely answer is my chlorine has lost a lot of strength. It's stored in a cabinet in the garage, and I'm in San Diego so it doesn't get that hot, but I've probably had it about a year, and who knows how long it was sitting on the shelf at Lowes. Unfortunately, they sell it in 2 packs. I would much prefer to buy smaller quantities of regular bleach, but I can't find any that doesn't have something else in it.

I bought 4 bottles and am mostly though the second. While it takes more I got it on special and it's still a better deal even in its degraded state than bargain unscented stuff at Big Lots (which also degrades anyway).

CHL Info

Bottom line is either your chl got used up or concentration wasn't what you expected. The solution to both is the same ... add more.
