Question about patching gunite core-drill holes

Hi there,

(In Southern New Jersey)

Our pool builder is attempting to plaster today. In the fall, they made mistakes on where we were putting the new lights (The nicheless ones). So they had to re-core drill in two spots. When I spoke to the operations manager in the fall, he mentioned that they would have to patch the gunite in those spots and then plaster over them. The guys showed up at 5:45am to beat the rain this morning. From my security cameras, I see no patching occuring- it looks like they just filled the holes with plaster. Is that appropriate? Or is it going to be weak in those spots?

The plaster is CL industries SunStone Pearl (Aqua Blue) if that makes a difference.

Asking before I make a big deal about it- I assume it's wrong but I am not an expert.

@kimkats Thank you! It rained a bit already- supposed to be severe later today

Here's where we are at present. Their truck broke down when they were trying to plaster and had to call a mechanic out, and eventually just called it a day.

Cant just stop plastering like that and leave it. That's gonna be an issue. And the open core holes is a problem too they need to be filled with hydraulic cement if they were doing it on the quick. They picked a lousy day in NJ to plaster i would have sent them home. Take some better overall closeups and post them. This may be a big mess sorry to say

I will take some pictures tomorrow.

I called and they insisted that it was fine to fill the holes with plaster. They said that this isn't plaster? and that the machine was broken when I got them on the phone, but to me looks like one hand not talking to the other.

I have stories (and plenty of video footage) to share about this company. Pretty regretful at this point for going with them.

WRITING! Put and get EVERYTHING in writing from now on!

First written part from you:
PB there is to be NO more work done on my pool until I have the PB and business owner on site to inspect what has been done and not done.
-core holes NOT filled in with the proper material
-plaster started and not finished

Until the plaster is removed all the way to the gunite there is to be NO MORE work done on the pool at xxx address.

Signed,
upset pool owner!

Think about sending this letter by certified mail to really get his attention!!

He/they are going to try to do and say ANYTHING to get you to accept this poor work. Do NOT back down. Shoulders and chin up..........smile on but look him in the eyes and do not back down. YOU have to live with what they do and leave behind for you to live with.

Took your advice, here's what I received.

"It was unfortunate that we had the issue with the equipment yesterday which has delayed the finish in addition to wasting a good amount of material. I know how the pool was left as they were in the middle of plastering when the mixer went down. Once we realized we were not going to be able to complete it yesterday they began prepping for us returning to clean up the pool, remove any loose debris and apply the new bond coat. We are waiting for the bad weather we are supposed to get over the next few days to pass so that we can return to clean-up and apply the bonding agent in the proper conditions. I have also had to order more material which will most likely take about a week to arrive but once it is here I will have you right back on the schedule for plaster. Also, there is no need to worry as we had additional tile to use to replace any of the broken ones we found and the extra holes being filled with plaster is routine.

If you would still like me to come out today I certainly can this afternoon. I have a few appointments already and would have to give you a heads up when I am on my way. "

????? NO mention of REMOVING the plaster that has already been sprayed????

Lets talk about why it is SO needed to remove the current plaster all the way to the shell.......down the road one day you will need to replace the plaster. At that time they will have to chip out not one but TWO layers of plaster and it will cost you more to do so for THIS crews mistake!!

It is NOT your problem or mistake so it needs to be done correctly NOW, FULL chip out of THIS plaster and start from stretch!

He is going to try any and every thing to talk you out of it and why it is not necessary..........stand firm. YOU have to live with what they do but they get to walk away and never look back.

Also, there is no need to worry as we had additional tile to use to replace any of the broken ones we found
WHAT??? What broken tiles? Did YOU know about them? How did they get broken??

he extra holes being filled with plaster is routine.
NOPE, NOPE, NOPE! Do it right once you remove the plaster! GURRRR

Met and feel a lot better.

It seems that their construction manager is not in the field (concerned about COVID-19 and on the older side)- so he was receiving his information from the guys on the crew.

When I showed the general manager who came today, he identified the issues himself and gave me the plan going forward. I feel A LOT better- @jimmythegreek THANK YOU for sharing about the hydraulic cement- when I heard him say that was how to fix them, I was relieved. They are planning on removing the plaster, doing a new scratch/bond coat, and then replastering.
