Pump wouldn't turn on. Timer relay was toast. Wonder how this happens? Age? **Pics**

2007 intermatic PF1102t freeze protection control timer. Had to replace the timer control "puck" back in 2020.

Went to startup this season and the pump wouldnt turn on. Lots of poking around with the multimeter and many on/off attempts and switching the panel breakers off and on, somehow I got the pump to start working.

Success!!! However it started to try to die then turn on a couple times before finally staying on. Grr. I put my head in the sand and for the next 24 hours I had a glorious pump to filter out the winter gunk that had accumulated.

Next day pump was off again.

Lots more poking with the multimeter this time around. I took the timer cover off and there she was, an obvious scorch mark on the case where the relay had given up the ghost.

Anyhoo, the $20 replacement from Amazon will be here in a couple days.

I guess the magnet gets weak over time and it can't close the circuit?

Omron G7L-2A-TUB-J-CB-AC200/240 General Purpose Relay With Test Button is the Relay info for those googling to this thread, purchased @ Amazon

Those contacts look pretty pitted also... 20 years in that tough Oklahoma environment isn't too bad at all!

Replaced the relay and.....nothing :mad::mad::mad:

Decided to take off the leads from the freeze probe and jump them and the pump fired right up. Reminder that the pump can be fired off either by the timer or the freeze protection probe.

Stinking timer that I had just replaced two seasons ago because the LCD was busted I guess is busted. Bleh. Oh well, $46 and an Amazon click later and it should be here Saturday.
