Pump service time during off season

This is my first time having a pool during the off-season months. Any recommendations on how long I should run the pump? I ran the pump for nine hours during the season and plan on doing so until the leaves drop. I was going to drop the run time to about six hours during the Winter.

Whatever is needed to skim the surface. Be sure to have it running when you add chemicals.
