Hello-

I received a lightly used Pentair 011060 IntelliFlo i2 3 HP VSP for free. The fittings are 2”.

I currently have a 1.5 HP single speed Hayward pump (can’t see model number) that started to run hot at the end of last season that I’m looking to replace. All of my piping and equipment is 1.5”- photo attached.

I realize the pump is oversized but I’m hoping the with the VSP it could still function reasonably. Is there any chance the IntelliFlo i2 could work with my system if I get it plumbed in? My loose plan was to use a threaded reducing bushing 2” x 1.5” at the inlet and outlet of the pump.

25k gallon, in ground, vinyl lined pool.
Hayward 1.5 hp pump model unknown (centurion motor, 230V, 3450 RPM)
Hayward sand filter model S244S
Rheem heater M266A

Thanks!

Thank you!

I did find unions that look like they go from 2” to 1.5 without the reducer. Any drawbacks, other than a few dollars, to using something like the link below?

Mc,

Real pump unions have an O-ring on the threaded end, that screws into the pump.. You don't really need pipe dope or thread to make them work and they don't leak over time.

I can't see the O-Ring in your pics, so I can't tell if it is there or not.

Here is a pic of a real pump union..

Thanks,

Jim R.
