My brother in law old pool pump just died and he asked me for recommendation. His pool is roughly 12'X24' roughly 4ft avg depth = 8600 gals

He has no features I think 1 or two returns, a suction side vac and the pad is 15 ft away with small cartridge filter. I have a much larger pool with more features and I just bought an Intelliflo which might be over kill for him.

What should I recommend?

If no automation there are off brand VS pumps some of our members recommend. Or a Pentair Superflo VS. Is his current motor 115V or 220V?

To keep it simple and the cost reasonable, perhaps a two-speed pump? I installed a toggle switch right on the pump to change speeds. My only automation is a 28-year old Intermatic timer, set for 12 hours a day. We keep the pump on low most of the time, except when it's hot, there's a high bather load, or we're vacuuming (no robots here!). My propane heater works fine on either speed, and the pump is much quieter and used much less electricity on low.

This would be a good fit to replace the motor only with a VS motor if the pump is less than 10 years old and in good condition. Can you provide a photo of the pump?
