Pump not performing

I think I have this one figured out but looking for some validation. I noticed today that my pump is very bubbly in the window and the jets of the pool are not getting nearly the PSI I was expecting. I noticed the filter is showing around 33 PSI (high). Trees in the area have been dropping a lot of stuff in the pool this week. I cleaned pump and pool baskets and it did not make an impact. I am thinking that the problem is that I need to backwash and put new DE in filter to solve. Thoughts?

Yep, time for a backwash and recharge. When you do, consult the manual on your filter. We typically recommend adding 80% of the manual recommended amount as the backwash will still leave about 20% in the filter.

At that filter pressure the grids can be warped if let go too long.

I was actually thinking about trying to open up the filter and clean it manually. This way, I can inspect everything going on. Never done that before. Only owned the house for about six months. Back washed it once so far and that seem to relieve a lot of pressure and worked good. I’m thinking about trying to open it up tomorrow.

That is the motor. Now show pics of the labels on the wet end of the pump so we know what the motor is spinning.

When I owned DE, I ended up always opening and doing full rinse out and grid wash. There was just too much crud left for my taste, and, each successive backwash leaves exponentially more. I'd clear it with a backwash, then open and rinse.

You have a 2.2HP single speed Superflo pump.

What model filter do you have?

So with the FNS60 and a 2.2HP you should have a clean filter pressure of 18-20 PSI and be backwashing and cleaning the filter when it gets to 25-28 PSI.

33 is way high. You probably have little flow out of your returns.

Nothing wrong with your pump not performing. You just have a clogged filter blocking the water flow.

I am curious. I feel like the filter being stopped up is correlated to a new seedling or some type of debris that trees in my yard have recently been producing. The long-term solution is probably to cut down the trees. in the meantime, is there some type of hack or product such as a mesh filter that could go in the pool basket or pump basket? I’m just wondering if there is a way to keep that stuff out of the filter to increase the longevity of each backwash.

Not in the pump pot, but what about your skimmer(s)? Are you using a skimmer sock? That's a must.

A good skimmer sock is worth its weight in gold. I personally use (and re-use) a 1 gal paint strainer net from HD, but many buy the disposable ones off Amazon that go right in the trash.

Thanks for looking into this. I plan to clean and DE today. Thank you
