I have a Jandy FloPro pump, part number FHPM.75 It has a single speed Century Centurion motor that is labeled as 0.75 HP with a 1.31 service factor for 0.98 total motor HP. It was installed by the previous homeowner, but I believe it is around 12 years old.
Today it started to shut itself off after running for 30 seconds or so. If I turn off the power to the pump, I’ll hear a loud click after a minute or two. I can then turn the power back on and it will run for another 30 seconds.
I assume this is some sort of safety shutoff. Then motor doesn’t feel hot to the touch, and the impeller seems to be turning for the 30 seconds that the pump runs.
Is this worth trying to diagnose and repair (well, call someone to do that. The family will be unhappy if I turn this into a science experiment and the pool is out of commission for several weeks…)? Should I just junk it and get something newer?
The skimming action on our pool has always been a little weak, so I don’t know if this is properly sized. Though, there is a small suction side air leak that I’ve never been able to track down which might also be part of the skimming problem…
Any advice for a pump newbie would be greatly appreciated!
