Pump motor over heating

Hello all.

I have a us motors asb674 1.5hp motor connected to an aqua haven pump. I just replaced the bearings and one thru bolt with allthread. I checked the motor to make sure it spun free before I reinstalled it. I am stumped. This ia my first pool. Any suggestions on what i should checl next?

Is it heading up to the point of the thermal cutoff safety switch turning off the motor?

The motors tend to get pretty warm, but you should be able to leave your hand on it.

It has hit the thermal switch a couple of times. It only took 1 min to hit it when I initially put it back together tonight

Usually that happens due to bearing issues, but I think it can also be cause by degradation of the insulation on the windings which would require a new motor.
Unless you did not put something back together correctly.
Does the shaft spin freely while it is installed in the pump?

The shaft does spin freely. I'm sitting over the pump now.

Then it is likely something related to the windings and I do not think that is repairable.

Is there a possibly that the allthread I put in the motor to replace a snapped thru bolt could be the culprit? All the thru bolt had some type of plastic insulation on them. Should I try to put shrink tube on it?

No idea ... I assumed the bolt you were talking about was to mount it to the pump or put the cover back on.

Not sure how a bolt would cause overheating.

The thru bolts are the 4 bolts that go from the back plate to the front plate that kind of "squeeze" all the parts together (front plate, body, and back plate)

The one bolt I replaced went thru the magnet. This particular motor has 2 that go thru the magnet and 2 that go on the outside of the magnet

Perhaps if the windings or some part of the electrical system is hitting the bare bolt it could cause issues, but nothing should be capable of touching them

Can that white ring being backwards cause a bunch of problems?

Nvm something is going on I side the motor.. tearing it back down now

Now that I've got it torn back down I have found out that somehow the bearing seat on the front plate has bored itself out and allowing the shaft to wobble. :/ new motor it is

Would be a good time to upgrade to a two speed motor to save $$ on electricity.

Just be sure the motor mates up to your wet end and matches your impeller rating.
