Pump losing power?

Hi all. Have a pentair ezvac that we inherited with our house and pool. We have just completed our SLAM, and pool is clean. We do still have small piles of dead algae in the pool. I've tried running the ezvac, but the problem is that after a couple hours the return flow into the pool is very low and the vac stops moving.

I have a brand new filter that was put in while we were slamming and just cleaned it out. I tested the flow using the ezvac flow deal, and it is not even reaching the minimum pressure. The pump is 1.5 hp and rated for 70 gpm, so should be large enough. Is there something I'm missing perhaps on why it wouldn't be driving this vac since our slam?

Norman,

Dead algae will plug up a filter in about half a micro second... :p Well, maybe not quite that fast, but faster than you would suspect.

I believe that if you clean your filter your flow will come back up until you clog it again..

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Thanks for the reply. I'm noticing air bubbles in the return flow too, could I have a small leak pressure side somewhere? I know for sure when I was slamming dead algae was clogging it because when I would clean the filter it would come off in sheets. Now I'm not so sure because the filter is mostly white, very little comes off.

Thoughts?
