Pump cycles

I had an above ground pool that we left the pump on all the time. We never used a solar cover so it was open all the time. We replaced it with an inground, Our code is either fence it or safety cover it. We went with cover. I am figuring we will use less chlorine. I'm not sure how often or when to cycle the pump. It is a variable. Thoughts?

With it covered it will lose less FC. It appears you are chlorinating with liquid chlorine. The days the pool is covered, you only need to run the pump for 1 hour or so to mix the chlorine. When uncovered, you need to run it to keep it skimmed and add your chlorine.

With a variable speed pump you can try running it at 1500 rpm or so and see if that works. I assume you do not have any kind of pool powered cleaner.

When you speak safety cover, are you referring to the mesh/solid elephant type of covers with the anchors and straps. I believe this will be a chore to take on and off. In addition, what codes are there that only allow a tarp on the pool? You still have wind, and have to use either water bags, or aqua blocks? You are referring to an in-ground pool? A fence is for safety and would high recommend it.

We have a chlorinator using three inch tablets which is going to take some getting use to as well. We did buy a Dolphin pool cleaner which is going to be pretty great.

TFPC does not recommend the use of trichlor tablets for daily maintenance.

Good luck.

It is a power cover that retracts. You have to enter a code to open it. We don't have fence so the cover has to withstand someone on it.

For daily maintenance of FC we recommend liquid chlorine. Or installing a SWCG to create your own chlorine.
