Pump basket filter filter

I finally found a option to keep Crud out of my cartridge filter. Installing this steel mesh has reduced contaminants from reaching the filter by at least 90%!
No more dog hair to wash out. Wife and child’s hair catches on the screen. Little bugs etc etc. Couldn’t be happier.

Nice hack. I would be worried about the quality of that steel and it introducing metals into the water. Keep an eye on it.

So far the screen mesh is holding up. No signs of rust or degradation. On a positive note, it is catching a lot more small particles that would normally make it through the pump basket.. What you see is on the screen is from last Tuesday. So 5 days worth.

What do you mean by “good baskets?” I have a hairnet in the skimmer that catches all surface debris. What you are seeing in the screen is more than likely coming from the main drain.

Good baskets being ones with no big holes.

What sort of cap do you have on the main drain?

I believe it’s a Hayward cap, dome shaped. Has holes in it like pump basket and skimmer basket.

Just to give y'all an update. Im still using the same screen from July. No rust at all. Its doing a heck of a job keeping the little Crud out of the filter
