Installed a new pressure gauge purchased from TFtestkits. Pressure seems to flex between 13 to 15. Is this normal? Backwash when pressure rises above 15. 50% of the time pressure is 15 then it will drop 1 or 2 points.
Pressure varies from pool to pool. Your clean psi might be 12, while your neighbor's is 15, or someone else's only 7. But once clean, use that number as your baseline so that you can anticipate when to clean next (25%).
I don't think I would call it normal but it is not particularly harmful. The most common cause for that pressure fluctuation is a suction side air leak. Do you see any bubbles (pump running) in the pump strainer basket lid?
Backwash at 25% above normal so I would backwash when your psi goes to 18-19.
