How do you figure out the proper schedule for a variable speed pump? Is there a calculation? I saw the goal is to turn the entire pool over 2 times per 24 hours, but I’m not sure how to set the schedule to accomplish that? I can’t find the gpm for my pump. Here are my specs can anyone help me figure this out?

Pump: Hayward 2.7HP VS 950 Tristar pump
Pool volume: 32000 gallons

I have the Hayward Omnilogic app, where I can pick low med or high speed and set schedules.

You should run your pump for a reason..

The main reason to run your pump is to generate chlorine.. if you had a Saltwater Chlorine Generator, of if you were using chlorine tablets, or if using Liquid Chlorine you only need an hour or so to mix the chlorine with the pool water.

The next reason to run the pump is to adequately skim the surface of your pool. This really depends on you. Some people don't want to see things floating in their pools and others don't really care. I run my pump 24/7, as I like to make a little chlorine all the time and I like to skim all the time. I also think my pool looks better when there is a little motion to the water.. But, that is me.. You will have to decide what works best for you.

Speed wise... the slower you run the pump, the less it costs.. I would not run less than 1,000 RPM as there is little to gain.. How fast you need the pump to run has a lot to do with how your pool is plumbed and what equipment you have. Since you don't say if you have a heater, 1200 RPM may work, but again, you will just have to experiment and see what works best for you.

Don't pay any attention to those that say you have to 'turnover' your pool water x times a day.. It is just not true..

I would suggest that you run the pump as long as possible and as slow as possible to get the job done.. and at the same time avoid running the pump when your electrical rates are at the max.
