Propane or Electric heater for small pool and spa

Pool is planned to be 10x 23 with 6x6 integrated spa.
I had planned 500 gal LP buried tank for gas range, grill and pool heater. It’s about $8-10k to install tank and lines. No natural gas in our area.

pros: wife wants gas stove. And I’m told spa will heat in minutes. But expensive to run.

Cons: expense of tank, expense to run.

I’m told that it takes hours for electric heater to bring spa to temp. It takes so long that you can’t plan spontaneous use of spa.

whats your experience? So any with electric heaters regret it? Thanks.

We chose electric over propane for our 50sf spa.

We also considered having to heat the pool in spring/fall as we live in PA. Didnt want to pay for propane to do that.

It takes our spa about 75 minute to go from ~79 to ~101 degrees. After we figured out the timing it became easy to manage, especially since we have the hayward apps and can do it from cell phones.

So when we start putting the kids to bed, we start the heat. Or when at the gym, start the heat. We have not missed the spontaneity, but that will be a personal decision. I don't mind managing the time.

One other note. Your spa jets will get pretty hot within a couple minutes. So you can always sit in front of a jet and warm up while the spa is still relatively cold. With a 6' x 6' and Fla temps keeping your water high, im guessing 45-60min to heat???

We also considered propane but we got a heat pump and solar instead. We don't have a spa however I rigged up a divider in our pool back in the earlier days and was able to heat just the shallow end which worked great with the heat pump. Just get a bubble cover and keep it covered all the time during the cooler months. Given that you are much further south than us you should have no problem. Of course if DW wants a gas stove, well that would be a game changer  The women eventually always gets what they want

How is the electric bill with this? That is about the size of pool we are considering as well as a heat pump.

It’s hard to know exactly just yet. It’s been running since late May and we’ve had one quarterly bill since. Our overall bill was probably 15% higher than usual but the vs pool pump was also running flat out on high speed that whole time thanks to our start up guy and his miscommunication. We were given stats from the company we bought it through for our specific pool size and climate etc. Per year it is meant to cost about $800 ish to keep to 32* with a cover and 30* without. I can post a link to our system. You may not be able to get the same brand but I assume you would be able to get the same full inverter technology. It has a great COP rating - which is how many units it puts out per each unit of used. An important figure when comparing systems.
