I have a propane pool heater that came with the house, never hooked up. Still has the plastic cover on the gas line. So I just got a 100lb propane tank for it. I am not sure what regulator to get. I know it will directly affect the the efficiency of the heater, so I want to get the right one. Any help greatly appreciated.

That tank will only last about 5 hours with that heater. Not sure what volume you are heating, but you may need to consider a larger tank.

Your heater brand is one that a lot of our experts like. As Marty indicated a 100 lb tank isn't very practical. See if you can return it and get your money back. The normal way to get propane is to go to a propane supply company in your area. They will supply the tank on a "free" basis or you buy it and own it. It will usually be a couple hundred gallons. Normally the "free" tanks require you buy propane from that dealer only. You'll need to have the tank inventoried from trucks. Whoever you buy the tank from will install and provide the regulator. There are usually at least 2 different suppliers so try to check with all of them to get the best deal.
If your heater is propane that probably means you don't have natural gas service to your house. If for some reason you do have NG and it's just not run to the pool, investigate getting NG service added to the pool heater. You can get an orifice kit to convert your heater to natural gas. It's much cheaper to us NG in most parts of Texas.

I agree about the cylinder being way too small for your installation.
The regulator you need should be provided by the LP supplier, but if you want to buy your own you need either both first and second stage regulators or an 2 stage regulator (both stages in one package). You also need a regulator capable of providing more that 400,000 BTUH. I'd recommend something in the 800,000+ BTUH range. The extra capacity will maintain at full flow of the heater better in cooler weather.
Also keep in mind that if you buy your own you'll need inlet and outlet piping/tubing and fittings.
