Problems with Easytouch > Intelliflo VS - NO COMM

Hi,

New to the forum here, and due to unfortunate circumstances, I've taken over the family pool at the house. I know we have an Intelliflo VS with Easytouch, and I use the Screenlogic app. The other day the app wasn't connecting with the system (this seems to happen off and on). This morning, the pump was running, and then it just...stopped.

I tried
*Diagnostics > reset system
*Turning the wifi off/on
*Resetting the breaker outside

None of those seemed to work. The phone app says I'm connecting to the system, but the Easytouch still says NO COMM.

Any ideas on what else I can try to reconnect the system? Is it possible that I need a new comm cable?

If I set a schedule on the Intelliflo, will that run everyday? Once I get the communication back, will that override those settings?

Any help would be extremely appreciated?

J,

First, make sure that you are not in the Service mode. The little 3" LCD should say "Auto"..

Then go out and look at the pump's display and see if it Says "Display not Active".. If it says that, then the pump is under the control of the ET.. If it says anything else, it means that the pump is not talking with the ET.

Let us know what you find...

Where does the EasyTouch say "NO COMM"? The panel out at the equipment? Or do you have a panel on the wall in the house?

Hey - looks like my last reply didn't post the other day. It said it on the equipment outside. Talked to Pentair and did some troubleshooting. They say it's an antenna and I need JUST the antenna kit to fix it. For now, I disconnected the antenna so it's at least running...

hey i had another thought... it's weird that the screenlogic app says it can communicate (but that might just mean that the app can talk to the screenlogic device itself, not the easytouch).

if you can, as a test... use a short bit of wire to hard wire the screenlogic protocol adapter to your easytouch - no wireless junk in the middle - and see if that works. if so, then we'll know your easytouch is okay and it is probably the wireless connection kit (the 522620 part they specified)

Your screen logic "brick" needs to communicate with the easy touch through it's comm cable, and if it can't, you will get "NO COMM" at the E/T panel LCD, and or a "connecting to system" hang on the S/L. It can connect in one of two ways, either a direct connection meaning that the remote or comm wire (a 2 pair wire) connects directly between the brick and the E/T. The other way is with a "virtual wire". This is used when you cannot get a physical wire from the brick that resides at or near your router to the E/T control box outside. It is a wireless connection between the two points (NOT WiFi). That 2 pair wire still needs to run to the transmitter from the E/T at the equipment, and that is where you may be getting the NO COMM error from. Check that wire to make sure that it isn't or hasn't gotten chewed or pinched. That goes for the wire that may be used in a wired connection all the way from the equipment to the brick in the house (or where ever the brick is). There is also a network cable that runs from the brick to the router, but if you once had a connection, that cable is most likely ok.

Are you getting the "connecting to the system" displayed, but does nothing else? Or does it indeed connect?

Note: The 2 pair wire has RED and BLK wires and those are the power. The GRN and YEL are the data, and that is what you are loosing when you get "NO COMM". Either one or both. Now, if you lost either one of the power wires, you would get the "connecting to the system" on the ScreenLogic, and the app would pretty much just hang there and do nothing else, until the request timed out.

The on again, off again, symptom you reported would point me to look for a wire pinch or chew. 522620 is the whole kit, because now the antenna has been incorporated onto the board, and it comes with wire. You may want to run new wire to take the old wire out of the equation.

So here is your problem as I just went through this exact same thing over the weekend. I did all of your same steps that you wrote in your post. I was like this is my exact problem. The only way to fix your issue is to call a Pentair rep to update your pump. Seems the panel and pump are different models and the firmware needs an update to work. The service guy came to my house with a laptop and downloaded new software and magically it works now. He said there is no other fix for this problem other than running the pump manually. Hope this helps and it’s super frustrating so I understand your issue
