pretty big tear in liner. quick help

our diving board broke last night and fell into the pool. We didnt notice the hole in the liner until this morning. Water is down about 5 inches right now over the course of 16 hours or so. The gash is roughly 6-8 inches wide. Is this repairable?

I was able to get a big patch on it but it's not sitting as flush as I would like. Is it better to apply an even larger patch over the patch I put? Or remove the old one and try again

Most replies I have seen have said a smaller patch to cover the hole and a bigger patch to cover the first one.
