Pressure gauge help

So I just went out to test water and my intex sand filter pressure gauge apparently blew off my filter, I can’t find it and it’s spraying water, I’m gonna replace it but in the mean time can I just screw in a 1/4 or 1/2 bolt to stop the spraying and still run the filter?

Most pressure gauges are 1/4" npt. You can use a plug temporarily if necessary.

I'd be worried about WHY the gauge blew off! The pressure must have been pretty high for that to happen.
