Pressure gauge broke off

The pressure gauge broke off leaving part of the screw inside so I can't screw in a new gauge. I never used the old one for many years it didn't work. I know when to backwash, never have any problems in many years. I would like to plug the hole, what can I use. That won't blow out under pressure

I don't think any plug will hold the pressure.

If the stem was metal, I would get a small eaz-out (broken screw remover) and remove the nipple. If it's plastic I would drive a flat screwdriver into the broken stem to make a slot and then try to screw it out.

Those gauge nipples usually have a hole in the middle. Use a "reverse screw removal bit" to get it out:
