Preparing for Salt Start Up -- Recently finished pool

Make sure you test your current salt level before adding any bags of salt. I'd suggest using Diamond Crystal Solar Naturals (blue bags). Use PoolMath to assist with the calculations: "Effects of Adding" --> "Salt". Pour the bags into the pool and brush it every couple minutes to help it dissolve. Should be completely dissolved in 20 minutes.

Thanks -- any reason you recommend this over the pool-specific salt?
It's pure salt and doesn't add any metals or other chemicals (anti-caking agents, etc.) to your water. Some users have reported small amounts of debris, such as pebbles or dirt, but I haven't seen any in the ~25 bags I've bought. It's also inexpensive and widely available. I had Home Depot deliver to my house for a small fee.

Whichever style is $8 a bag flip flops. I Google them up before I go and go get the cheaper of the two. Maybe it's water softener salt at Lowes, maybe it's pool salt at HD or Walmart. Salt is salt if the bag says pure / 100 / additive free.

I've had filthy bags with lots of dirt from all of the brands, or sometimes they're clean, it's hit or miss. Never buy Chlorox salt as it gave people from issues.
