Pre pool opening (white water mold)

OH. Want to mess with something that didn't need messing with ? I'll SHOW you !!!' :ROFLMAO:
My thoughts exactly!
I’m like “self, why would you mess with anything? things are going good, just Let it ride”

BUT previously I did say I’d be the guinea pig, I should just keep my mouth shut haha!
I’m all about emergency preparedness so stash box it is .

How is your experiment coming along?

I have one skimmer. The skimmer line is full open . Skimmer suction is not that great unless I close the main drain (more than 50 %)

Does it hurt anything to leave it like this all the time ?

My main drain is 2 grey circles on the wall of the “deep end” image.jpg

That's great. Most of us run 90% or so from the skimmers. You only need a little drain flow to have some benefit from them.

I really need to come up a solution for cleaning under the auto cover

I just started SLAM 40 min ago
(My third of the season)

I check chems twice a day . I am not slacking in anyway

Only thing I can come up with is the cover. It’s been mostly open all season. Def not getting closed daily , but periodically (when yard is being mowed etc) for short periods

Two days ago cover was left closed, I’d say 12 hours (Indy had large amounts of rain)

When I checked fc last night I was down to 2 (first time I’d seen it out of my range at all)
I didn’t worry (silly me). I’m thinking lots of sun, pool had lots of use today no biggie
Added Lc to 7
This morning it’s 2
Pool is extremely cloudy

The cover is the only change I can come up with.
My kids/grandbaby did come Thursday. Is it possible their suits were contaminated? They just got back from the beach and who knows if suits were washed . Or is the cover more likely ?

Advice on cleaning under the autocover and how often/long it should stay closed regularly please

Probably not. And even if they were, it would be a proverbial drop in the 10k gallon bucket.

What about the storage basin thing ? Maybe that water got funky and infected the pool. So it's 'the cover' but not the actual cover ?

I’ll take a look.
Would be setting the main drain way less cause cloudiness ?
Even with wwm the pool was more clear than this
Of course I have company coming today 🙄

I just changed the skimmer sock. It wasn’t “full” per se . But it was heavy and when I lifted it out it was like the water trapped in the sock. This has never happened to me before. Usually there is no water in the sock only bugs etc

I would say at least 8-12 oz of water in the sock like a balloon

Few bugs but lots of “dirt”

Does running my pump on quick clean or higher rpm make the cloudiness go away faster?
Welp. Here's the deal on that. More volume is more gunk through the filter. But it's also more volume at the returns to mix the pool water so less old water makes it to the filter.

I am on team low and slow.

High speed may also force crud through your sand filter. Do you have any DE to add ? That might give you a quick boost.

Significant improvement

Does seem to be using chlorine tho
Did a check of cya it’s 40 not 50 so I’ve lost a little there, but if anything I’ve been running the fc hot basing it on 50.

If this stupid wwm is rearing it’s head
Ima lose it . It’s like I get a month or so of tfp then bam

I basically slammed yesterday pool cleared up in a jif. Passed oclt with no fc loss. All great news

I was changing the skimmer sock when my neighbor started burning trash (or whatever) ashes flying my way (literally looked like it was snowing). I run to close the cover , skimmer too still removed, basket still out.

In the time I closed it, got the new sock fitted over the basket and replaced it I see

Foam type stuff in the skimmer (that wasn’t there 60 seconds ago) and slimy whatevs.

Confirms my thoughts something is under the cover for sure. Sitting here now feet away from the pool/cover there is a funky smell.

I’m still open to suggestions on how to treat under the cover . How long should I leave the cover in contact with slam water ?

On a whole separate note… the volleyball net we just added has become a huge success and very competitive . My parents want to buy “water shoes” to play in. Will these leave marks or be harmful to the fiberglass?

I so don’t want to be Debbie downer and tell them they can’t wear them, at the same time need to protect the pool

I imagine it is sanitized pretty quick so long as it's brushed well. If the algae is hiding behind it's biofolm, then it is protected from the SLAM water.

That's probably specific to the shoes just like sneakers in the house. Most won't leave marks but some theoretically may. I also imagine if you did get marks, they'd clean with magic erasers or such and you could stop using that particular shoe.
