It's super intense, high testosterone filled exercises that include alot of weights, squats, endurance, and repetition. In this one, there were 4 stations. You do a set of exercises for 12 minutes and do as many reps as you can. 3 minutes to move to the next station and prepare/rest.
Some were with barbells (75 lbs at one station and 25 lbs at another station), some with dumb bells (looked like 2x15 pounders). There was jump ropes, jumping onto or over an 18" high x 24" square box, and shot put. They are not told what they are going to be doing until the day of the competition, so they have to train on a multitude of exercises. There are other competitions that include running a course from station to station. I've seen some that include swimming and biking (like a tri-athelon), but the difference is in the high intensity exercises they perform at each station. I've seen a pro competition on TV in which they had to do 100 pull ups (in some weird modified way), then lift weights and do deep knee squats with the weights, and repeat. Another one was climbing a 25' high rope, lifting weights, push ups, and repeat. These ladies have tremendous leg and arm strength, and endurance. It was incredible to watch.
Here's one of her doing the jumping on the box.
