Possible Pebbletech failure

New to the forum. Glad to be here. Seems like a great community. Mods, feel free to move this to whatever section it needs to go in.

We just completed a 20x40 in ground pool with spa overflow/waterfall into the pool. Pebbletech was applied on 12/20 and pool filled with water next day (ish) after acid wash. Equipment got up and running and the builder added the chemicals and chlorine as needed. BUT, while the builder is deemed in the contract that it's his responsibility to maintain the pool for the first month, once the holiday started he immediately bailed and has not been back since the fill day. The Pebbletech instructions I read stare that it is absolutely crucial to maintain water chemistry during the first 30 days in addition to frequent brushings in order to ensure color uniformity and long-term stability of the surface. I don't think it has been brushed once.

I finally just went and got a water kit myself and the chemical levels are all jacked up. As of today (1/5) builder still hasn't been back. I just let him have it on a text message.
I totally understand that it was the holidays. If he had told me that he was going to be unavailable to tend to the pool and needed my help, I would have 100% understood and been more than happy to do it myself. But he just bailed.

Should I be upset here? Could my Pebble tech be an issue moving forward? It is a fairly dark color (Prism Blue) and while I don't see any glaring issues right now, the water quality is so murky from lack of chlorine that I cant see it well anyway.

For what it's worth this pool is in TN where the weather has been fairly cold lately, water temps in the mid to high 50's.

Welcome to TFP.

What test kit did you get, and what is your water chemistry?

What have you done to the pool?

Pools can stand a lot of start-up abuse. Just start making it right and follow the start-up guide.

We recommend you do not rely on the builder for plaster start-up as many let you down. No one will take care of your pool the way you will.

Also in TN. New pool 2 years ago. Pebbletech as well .PB “as seen on TV”. Shot plaster in Feb or so and filled. Had not yet read anything, so didn’t know about brushing. Weeks later when I asked about it was told “nope, we add a chemical to it, so not needed”. We never brushed, all’s fine now. They came by a couple of times and added chlorine, but that’s about it. If I were you I’d use my Taylor kit and focus on my levels. Water temp will be a lot lower now so algae won’t be an issue. Watch Ph , alkalinity, and calcium. Look at Pebbletech site for their numbers.
