Possible New Pool In Central FL

Alright we need some help with pool finish since we're coming down to the wire. We're a little overwhelmed because everyone seems to have their own brand and color and everything and no 2 pictures make the pool look the same. We want a deep dark blue but the wife is afraid of getting to the black side of things. We're also confused on what a "Puerto Rico Blend" is?

We pulled the 2 images included from the interior gallery and love the look of the water. This one was listed as stonescapes midnight blue small Puerto Rico Blend. We're in Florida so we do get a lot of sun but also have some nice trees and stuff that will shade the pool during certain times of the day (not much though).

We do like the abalone shell and will probably do double the amount they normally do but the glass beads are confusing us because we're not sure if they add texture or color or both (and if they're worth the cost).

Should we do something like a tropics blue to keep the water a little lighter? Looking for something to complement our waterline tile and everything and create that "oasis" feeling.

@Spookie I know you have the midnight blue and we've talked about it but your pool looks like it borders on black in some light conditions (images in the interior gallery). I do know you put a lot of glass and abalone in do you have any thoughts?

I should mention our interior company has their own line of pool finishes they use.

Hey pal, the glass beads both add color as well as texture. I was concerned with the texture of the pebble without beads as my kids have had their feet torn up at a friends pool who has mini pebble and they didn’t have glass beads. I did the beads more for the fact they have no sharp edges like some of the pebble. Not that the pebble are like razor blades, but they are definitely not as smooth as the glass beads. I also went overboard with the amount because I got each bag at cost and also because I would be irritated if I didn’t put enough. I’ve seen seen several posts from people who don’t have glass and they don’t have any issues.
As far as color, the Midnight Blue gives that dark blue look without taking away the ability to clearly see the bottom. I think I know what picture your wife is referring to, I think the shadow from my neighbors house is making it look darker than it is. I remember being in your situation and having sleepless nights because I was indecisive about the color. It’s one of the toughest choices. I don’t think I’ve read any posts where someone regretted the color they chose. I love my color choice and if I built another pool, it would be Midnight Blue. In most of the pools I design, my clients choose a darker color like MB

Nice work Tegguy! I took a break from the forums for a couple months. Sorry about the mishaps you had! If you selected an interior company, ask them to go see a pool they just completed so you can see the color in person. I wouldn't go off of a picture. A camera sees light differently than the eye. I went and saw a pool in Maitland with the color I picked to verify it was what I wanted and it was reassuring to see it.

Thanks for the advice we asked and they didn't say they had any. We did go see a tropics blue pool but the sample we had for tropics blue didn't match their finish (sample was lighter). We think we've narrowed it down to Mignight blue with extra Abalone and probably the glass beads (teal and blue I think is the Puerto Rico blend)

Tried to start coping today but the coping was damaged in shipping so the installers returned it. Hoping for a better day tomorrow. We are thinking about doing a platinum grout color for the coping @kimkats do you have any opinion on that?

I like the idea of the platinum grout color. Darker is much better than lighter as we all know the lighter will show dirt and grime much faster. Well done!

11/16/2020 Pool Safety and final electrical inspection passed! Just waiting on interior crew to come out to start

So we had some delays getting the interior crew out here due to COVID and number of projects so they are supposed to be out here on Friday. Meanwhile I had some questions I was hoping everyone could help with...

1) Are there any recommended pump run times and speeds for normal pool operation?
2) How often does everyone run their pool cleaner?
3) How often should you test the water (I've heard once a week)?
4) How often should you brush the pool? I know it's 3 times a day for the 1st week after plaster but what about after that?
5) What is the best way to clean glass tile?
6) Does anyone know anyway to get the intellicenter to talk with google home?
7) How hard is it to install the the salt chlorinator? Would need plumbing and wiring.
8) Is there a specific way to set the valves for the spa suction and return or is it personal preference?

3. Did I post a set of links when your shell was shot? If so there is a link to pool care. If not I will share them when I get home.

5. If you keep the water balanced then your waterline tile should stay clean. Every once in a while run a damp cloth over it I'd you see a bit something on it. If you see a need to clean it then you can use a solution of muriatic acid to help clean it. Use care with the m.a. as it will lower your pH and it's fumes are no fun.

I will hit on the others if no one else does before I get home.
