I was looking for some alternate means to light up the pool at night for the occasional one-time-per-week night swim. So only need to use it an hour or two per week.
We don't want to use our pool light at the moment (as its old and no matter what new replacement gasket we get, we keep getting water into the bulb area... and we decided with an old 120V light fixture from the 60s that we are just going to turn off the electricity to that area for now and just do a portable option.).

I'm going to list a few options below I found below on Amazon (from different companies... not trying to promote any option ... I'm going to try the 1st option as it had alot of good reviews ... Although any solar-powered alternative option would be nice so don't need to worry about the recharge area getting eventually wet).

attach on sides (USB-C rechargeable):

attach on sides (double AA batteries):

attach on sides (DC unit charging):

float on top (solar):
??? haven't really found any well-reviewed ones...
other than 'flashing game' ones which i won't list as probably won't work out (since you can't keep them just on White setting).

on bottom (solar):

solar, set on coping ('waterproof' but can't tell if they are submergible into the water though or just point into the water):

I understand and fully support NOT using the old light. Better safe than sorry!

Here are some of my thoughts after looking at your light picks:
-do NOT glue anything to your walls-if/when they fail then you are stuck with getting it back off=no fun
-If you can find a way to hang them into the water those would be FUN and pretty to have!
-I really like the looks of the over the coping ones-one big concern is we all KNOW someone will kick one or more of them into the pool. Now if you can find a way to over come that then those would be my second pick.

Have you thought about putting up pretty lights around the pool? I LOVE these: 3 pole outdoor lights - Google Search One on each end of the pool should do the trick.

I saw those glue options and didn't like those as well. Im going to see if the magnets stick to the sides of the ladder (or rig something to tie them on temporarily) and the metal pool light housing.

One of them (the 3rd one i think) had an option to hang on the pool jets but its more expensive so going to try 1st USB-C option first (which has 4 lights at $65 total vs 1 light at $65).
