Has anyone seen this poolside.tech business? It seems like they’ve finally broken the pool automation code.

I’m interested if anyone else has heard about them and what they think. I’ve been a long time subscriber to the forum but am more recently a pool designer and am interested in genuine feedback. This seems like a killer product. Although it doesn’t test for everything, if the other chemistry is solid it tests the two most important and more likely to change levels.

And, it seems far more user-centric that servicer-centric.

Thoughts?

Best,

Meh. Cloud-based pool control only works while the cloud does, and there are LOTS of examples of cloud-based services being shut off and bricking the devices that depended on them.

Automated pH/ORP testing + chlorine/acid dosing is already available without their controller, and their controller doesn't appear to make any of it more accurate or reliable.

I can see why the system is nice for pool builders -- compatibility with multiple manufacturers gives them more flexibility -- but for pool owners it seems pretty pointless. To me, anyway.

They've only been around for a few years and appear to have only one product, impressive though it is with the ability to communicate with virtually any brand VSP and other equipment.

Have talked with their reps about the product and their business, and it seems sound, but it is hard to have any longevity in the pool equipment business with out a dealer network, more products, needed training, and builders that will install them.

The "big 3" have that area pretty-well covered, especially when it comes to incentives for the builder to use a product exclusively. Builders and large service companies only like to deal with products/brands they have used successfully, are familiar with, and are very resistant to change.

@tcross04 Did you end up getting The Attendant? I'm considering getting one, but there aren't that many reviews out. We have a basic pool/spa combo with solar and gas heating. I won't be getting the chemical autodosing components. Wondering if a Hayward OmniPL is a better shot (slightly cheaper) or if The Attendant is a better way to go. What have you liked about? Anything been frustrating? thanks!
