pooldv texas pool thread

Re: pooldv pool thread

The weather has been pretty erratic; rain, sunny, hot, cold, blah, blah.

We're up to 72 degrees though. Slow and steady. Added 120 lbs of salt and CYA over the last week or so. Turned the SWG on today and got all green lights. Also, de-winterized the outdoor bathroom and all the hoses and sprinklers.

Oh, here's a PSA
The fine print on the freeze proof faucet says to disconnect the hose. What they mean is disconnect the hose. Opening up the hose so it will drain is not good enough. Disconnect the hose. Especially if it is going to be 12 degrees. For those of you with the good fortune, or good sense, to have never had a copper water line burst by frozen water this is what it looks like.

See the writing on that cap? That is where it says to disconnect the hose. :)

Re: pooldv pool thread

I think the writing is ambiguous at best.

...and been there.

Re: pooldv pool thread

How did you find it? Careful inspection of the plumbing prior to re-pressurization or did you throw caution to the wind and play the "find the geyser" game?

LOL!! Yep, turned on the water and let er rip til it shot out of the wall! :) Yes, it's a very easy fix. 5 minutes not counting trip to Lowes which was already on the list for tomorrow anyway.

Not counting HOW MANY trips to the Lowes?? We know it's not one...

That dang thing cost 36 bucks! Maybe I'll disconnect the hose next winter.

Time to switch the beer fridge over to cans for pool time!

Re: pooldv pool thread

Wow. You've got solar. 72 degrees already. Have you been heating it? I'm gonna be way behind you on jumping in. I am day dreaming about potential heating plans at some point. Been thinking about trying a solar cover for now. And I've seen some water hose rigs. Not too sure either really work.

Re: pooldv pool thread

I put your sig back on the others. There is a show sig box under the text box. It should stay checked now.

Really, y'all still have "near beer" up there? Dang it! Better make a beer run to Texarkana!

No heat pump yet, solar is running and the solar cover is on.

Re: pooldv pool thread

Ok, after some crazy weather, close to freezing at night, some cloudy, cool days and some rain I lost enthusiasm for swimming in March. But, we're back on! Supposed to be sunny and in the 80s this weekend and most of next week. Heat pump has been on a couple of days running during the day. Pool is 77 right now. We are thinking 82 should be good.

Re: pooldv pool thread

Pool was 81 early this afternoon and 83 late this afternoon. It was sunny 75-78 this afternoon with not much wind. So, we pulled the cover off, cleaned it up and jumped in! Awesome first day of swimming this season! Can't wait for tomorrow, 84 and sunny tomorrow, cover is back on and heat pump is running. It was nice walking around in the pool on my broke leg. Gilligan did a great job cleaning up.

Sorry, snow people, :)
