Ok, huge problem solved! Thanks Inyo pools!
There was no weir flapper in the skimmer when we bought our new Florida pool. Terrible. Life without a weir is miserable. ? Skimming was nonexistent. I had to go be the weir door to get stuff skimmed off the surface.
Today I installed a new weir from Inyo pools. Got it right the first time. Phewww. Life is good again.

What stuff could you possibly get in your pool? You have it screened in! Oh, what, the lemon, orange, and lime wedges keep falling of your tropical drinks? 
True. It is wwwaaaaayyyyyy less stuff than we ever got in the Texas pool. But, still... it's stuff ... in the pool. ?
I like you being caged in so those precious feet cannot be harmed. Something about that Texas sun on your tootsies just made me uneasy.
I believe that the pointed end of the umbrella goes down..

Just saw this thread - Congrats on the new pool and state pooldv!
I am posting this for @kimkats - The photo of the plant several posts back I think is a Fortnight Lily - or a similar version from the Dietes family.
We have several planted around our house - they are popular in California as a drought tolerant plant. Looks like they are also called Wild Iris.
Funny (or not) but I just read that parts of the plant "may be poisonous" - I specifically had my landscape architect give us "safe" plants, since we had a 2 year old when we were designing everything...hmmm
