Liquid Chlorine
All season we have been fighting our pool to keep chlorine. The pool water has been crystal clear, no algae growth on the walls, floor, no slimy-ness feel, no cloudiness. At one point maybe 6 or so weeks ago the pool store did test for nitrates and they were a little high. Over the course of 2 days we lowered and refilled the pool 12" at a time 6 times.

We are on a Frog chlorinator and it has been set at full (8) all year, its going through a tablet pack in less than 5 days. Past seasons I was able to have it set on 2-2.5 and the chlorine would be at a perfect level and the packs would last 2-3weeks. We have gone through 3 times the amount of tablet packs this season, added liquid chlorine (this is the first season the pool store started to sell us liquid chlorine) about a month ago I told them I wanted to go back to using the Clear Result Powdered Shock. Previous seasons I was able to run the filter system 12-14 hours and off 8-10, This year the pump hasn't shut off since it was opened. No dirt or foreign matter on the bottom, baskets are kept clean, backwash weekly.

Attached is my water test from the pool store the other day. They always tell us the same thing "everyone is having a hard time keeping chlorine this year". Thats great because you sell chlorine but it doesn't mean that it is correct

Any ideas?

Hey Newt and Welcome !!!

They always tell us the same thing "everyone is having a hard time keeping chlorine this year"
It's the method, not this summer. :)

Read up and ask away Pool Care Basics
Download PoolMath
Purchase Test Kits Compared
Follow FC/CYA Levels
Possibly need a SLAM Process
Witness thereafter How Clear is TFP Clear?

Here's the skinny on the frog :

I have ordered the TFT-Pro test kit
It's hands down packed with value. For the same price as the comp k2006C, it has a nicer case, a $48 stirrer and the reagents are way better sized for TFP-ing. It's a total no brainer.

The initial hit is mostly to stock you up with the vials, CYA tube, Ph block, etc. After that the refills go on sale each spring for mid $40s and it costs a fraction of *one* pool store trip. It'll save you a great many trip to the poolstore, paying for itself in spades.

Then we'll make a pool ninja out of you, for nothing but feels. It's a pretty sweet deal, if I do say so myself. :)
