Pool Timer Won’t Shut Off

Currently my pool has an intermatic timer. The gears are working as I checked that they are moving as well as the timer clock moves at the appropriate speed and is lined up with the current time. I thought it could have been the trippers, so I replaced them yesterday. They are appropriately placed and well fixed. However, I woke this AM to notice the pool was on and never turned off. The tripper is firm against the shut off switch and there is an audible clicking noise as if the tripper is trying to turn off the switch, but does not have enough force to do so? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I am going on memory as I switched out my old timer. For clarity, is the time accurate when you reset it? You pull it out to rotate it and then it moves back in to engage. You mentioned the gears are turning so my assumption is the rotation of the timer is working properly. If that assumption is correct, then is it in manual mode? If that is all normal, then are the trippers set properly - i.e. I remember there are specific for either "on" or "off" so do you have those in proper sequence? Maybe post a picture of your timer.
Can you check to determine if a wire came loose? If the off wire is not connected, it will still give the click noise because that is mechanical but no connection does not send the signal to turn off the pump.
