Hi Kim - thanks for the feedback. Hubby says he likes the poured pad suggestion. We have room and it will leave room for equipment we may want to add later.

Now let's talk about the 5'depth. Hubby is 6'2, I'm 5'8, and we have no friends. Having fun with that one. I understand what you're saying.

Finally!

This happened today. We are on our way finally. It’s been a long process for us with all of the work to retain the slopes and ensure the wash runs right on past our pool, but we did it. I get to do Kim’s happy dance The pics may be out of order since I’m doing this from my phone.

What??? Do I REALLY see a hole AND a machine that dug it??? No more shovels and wheelbarrows for you!!! OH YEAH! is getting a BIG work out today!!!! SWEET!!!

It was a productive week. Wednesday was a gap day we set for contingency, then Thursday and Friday plumbing occurred. They’ll be back Monday because they didn’t set the distance between the deck jets as we requested. ?‍

It sounds like they are responsive to fixes and such! Good! If only they had done it right the first time but.............it will be an easy fix for them.

We made some more progress this week. The plumber returned Monday (owner fixed the position for the deck jets)! Great response and service. Tuesday was steel day. They were in and out (4 hrs 20 mins). ?

This has been very exciting but now we have to wait. No work until next Tuesday when the electrician shows up, then inspection and shotcrete won’t happen until the first week in Oct.

SWEET! Did they put "chairs" under the steel? If not make sure they do before the do the shell. These help hold the steel up so the stuff can get under the steel to form a better shell.

Yippee, we passed pre-shotcrete inspection! All contractors have been fantastic. Electrical completed their ground wiring on Thursday, we contacted Pinal county on Friday and the inspector just left. Wow

Now the hard work for us, because we don’t have a creative bone between us - waterline tile, coping, deck and fencing that’s not too overwhelming. We have a couple of landscape contractors coming this week to talk about design.

Do like BLING? Gloss or flat? 1x1 or 1x2 or 6x6 tiles. Go look at some tiles sites to see the differences.

Hi Kim - First hardscape/landscape person came today and said he hadn't seen valves close to the deck jets before, always by the pool equipment. (has good reviews in his field and he did say that he usually comes out after everything has been covered) Jeff explained these are balancing valves, will be covered below surface with a removable travertine tile sitting on top. Concerns me when the guy who never had a pool explains to the people who work with pools "all the time". So my question is, does this look right? On and off valve is by the equipment.

I did read an earlier thread where someone here talked about there water feature valves and they were close to the jets.

However, for my build the 3 valves for the weeping wall are near the equipment pad.

He said the fact i have kids and will be walking around the backside of my pool makes it safer to put at the pad.

Otherwise they would have been located near the pool where the water feature is.

I remember because i listened to the full discussion between my PB and plumber and he asked me a few questions during the discussion to reach his conclusion

my pool is 1 week after filling only

Valve placement also depends on decking kind. If poured cement then by the pad, if removed pavers then can be by the feature.

Danger of erosion or cave in!

Looks like rain and a storm is in the forecast for Mon/Tues. Where we are 45 minutes of a heavy downpour can get the wash running and wind can get fairly strong.
We are sitting with rebar and Shotcrete scheduled for 10/1. I’ve read some posts here, thank you TFP (Kim)for continuing to remind me that I’m not special , this is common. We are going to our Happy Place for loads of tarp to do what we can to shore it up and cover the trenches. Thinking that’s less expensive if we can prevent some damage than having to deal with it after?

Worst case scenario, if sections do get washed out, they can always build it back up with plywood forming and additional shotcrete. Do what you can to protect, and don’t sweat the small stuff.

You ARE very special! I ? you! It is allgood! What you are facing is not a happy thing but it can and will be fixed. Your idea of protection will help in the long run. Here is hoping you will not need it.

Sharing our storm and the aftermath. We put the tarp on the corners to help prevent cave in. The video shows the wash that splits our property. The wash runs after about 45 mins of a heavy downpour. Lovely AZ sun has pretty much taken care of the pool fill. ?

Good job on the tarps. I suspect you saved yourself some work digging it back out. Not too bad for erosion, though also not a fun task. I presume the digging out will be by the two of you?
