Pool Start-up Question

You can retest in 30 minutes after adding acid or liquid chlorine and redose as needed.

Great. So it was well above 100 ppm earlier. The 2 1/2 gallons of acid would have consumed over 40ppm TA.

Alright another question. Should I really be cleaning my cartridge filter when it gets to 12 psi. Normal is 10 psi? I feel as if it would filter better when more particles are being trapped already

Also is there something I can add to my cartridge filter to assist? Would a clarifier help remove all the dead algae? I would assume a strong flocculant is a no go on a cartridge filter. Pool was a swamp and I clearing but at the rate it’s going it’s going to be a month and a half before I see a clear pool

Clean the filter when the filter pressure rises by 25% over clean pressure.

If you pass multiple OCLT's and have minimal FC loss each day, but a cloudy pool, check back with us.

Jeremy, If you have a mesh cover, purchase small tarps and lay them over the mesh, and space them out, support them so they do not blow away. You must bring up the pool to SLAM level before closing and your CC should be .5 or less. I have a friend who this year forgot to place the tarps on and woke up to a green pool. This will keep the algae at bay.

You can pump back chlorine into the pool with a pump over the winter. I have also suggested filling up a 30-gallon bucket with water (when not freezing weather), adding some chlorine, and pumping it back into the pool. There are many things you can do. The key is to open up early enough, not necessarily close super late, especially with a mesh cover. I close my pool no later than 3rd week of September, and opened up last week, with a solid tarp. The water is clear. However, I recycle the water on the cover and pump it underneath the cover. I add one gallon of bleach on the cover and pump it back in a few times before the opening season.

As I mentioned, you have to think outside the box with your pool. This is quite a long time to clear up the water. I usually add one gallon before freezing temperatures (recycle tarp water) and add 1 gallon in March and 1 gallon in April. It is great having a tarp as it collects water and gives me an opportunity to save money and time. You can not do this with a mesh cover, but there are ways to stall the algae and keep the water clear. Good Luck!

Alright hoping back in here. Pool is about 1 foot of clear. Passed multiple multiple OCLT. I’m guessing it’s just the filter? I bought it last year though.
It is the filter. When your filter pressure rises 25% over clean pressure, clean the cartridges. Are you watching your pressures and cleaning?

Have you scrubbed inside ladders (removed from pool), behind lights, in the skimmers? Check the weir doors for algae?
