I purchased two LED bulbs from Home Depot and neither would illuminate. For some reason I can’t find a bulb that will make contact in the socket to illuminate. I barely screwed in a home 60 watt LED bulb far enough to make contact. Am I missing something here?

Turn the power off. Be absolutely sure it is OFF. Check again that it is off. Not to scare you, but I hate electricity though I have been working with it for 3+ decades. And an old electrician once told me that if you're not a little afraid of it, you're not paying attention.
Then, reach into the socket with a very small flat screwdriver and carefully pry the center connection up. They get very hot and eventually lose their "spring" so won't reach the center of bulb.

I have a new incandescent bulb on order. I will try it first, then do as you suggested, if necessary. I thought about doing that yesterday, but I didn’t have the right bulb, and I didn’t want to risk breaking the brass contact.

The contact is stronger than you think, just lift it a little. Get any regular bulb and try it before ordering a new pool bulb. You could have bad fixtures as well.

Searching Google for R-40 120 volt 400 watt pool bulb returns a large number of options.

What, from those options, has you concerned? What are you looking for in a bulb, specifically...?

Nothing in particular. Just asking the forum to see if there was a favorite or one to stay away from.

This ok?

Haven't seen much. The incandescents are like regular bulbs...hit or miss on quality...it is an incandescent...

The only recommendation for LED I've seen is the J&J Purewhite 2, depending on the fixture.

I’ve installed the new bulb and gasket, but I’m seeing air bubbles coming to the surface when the light is on. I watched and counted the time between air bubbles surfacing and the interval went from 8 seconds to 40 seconds and then no bubbles over a period of 4-5 minutes. Everything is lined up and tightened.

I just installed a new bulb and gasket and water is getting in the housing. The breaker is off. Was I supposed to add any sealant? Over tightened?
I just replaced both of my lights with LED bulbs from Inyo Pools so I’m familiar with what you’ve got going on.

All the mating surfaces of the light housing, glass and gasket need to be squeaky clean and no lumps of anything stuck on them. Don’t use any sealant, I used pool O-ring grease so everything would slide and mate together well. How tight did you tighten the band type clamp when you put it back on? The ends need to be almost touching.

Also, are you sure the water isn’t coming into the housing where the wires go through? That’s usually where they leak and there’s no fix for that except to pull in a new fixture.
