Pool Renovation (with Spa Addition)

Any thoughts on the Pentair UltraTemp Hybrid heater? It's both gas & a heat pump - it claims to optimize for efficiency & cost savings.

Sounds like its good for small pools. I’m opting for either the regular Pentair ultra temp heater that has the titanium heat exchangers or the high efficiency one that also has titanium. It looks like the hybrid you are referencing also has the titanium heat exchanger.

So we’re a couple days out on gunite, starting to finally see everything take shape. Rebar is going in today, and theyre finishing the spa plumbing. Will post some updated pictures in a few.

I ended up doing all of the pool demo myself, which included old tile and thin set removal, as well as removing the plaster 6“ below the bottom of the tile line. Additional I cored the beam for a new light, and ran the appropriate conduit. That will give us 3 lights total: 2 in the pool and 1 in the spa.

Based on this setup, it looks like I’ll need 3 relays/transformers for the lights, 1 built in for the pump, 1 for the heater, and 1 for the blower. So at a minimum we need 6—is that right?

Running into a little bit of a predicament. My PB is letting me drive a little bit of the job to save some money, while giving me guidance and checking things out for proper completion along the way. He is telling me we need to get the tile done before I pour the pool deck back. I’d love to be able to pour the deck back now, so that we can:

1. tack form boards into the area where tile is going to go within the pool for pouring the coping.
2. Get a uniform finish on the sheer wall, since there is an area of coping that will need to be poured there.
3. Likewise, get a uniform finish on the outside of the spa, since only 1/3rd of it was shotcrete’d up against existing old concrete

Alright, so we figured out the sheer wall issue, building it out to match with the pool deck. It also gave us a nice area to have the repour of the pool deck die out into.

We are currently set to finish tile tomorrow, with the re-pour of the deck/cantilever taking place Tuesday. Plaster is then schedule for Friday the 20th—so fingers crossed we will be swimming soon.
