Pool pump too strong?

My setup is a 1hp Hayward super flo with 1 1/2 pipping to one skimmer. Water level is fine at the skimmer and I replace all of the piping above ground. Is it possible that the pump is too strong that it’s sucking in air?

Not likely. Check to see that the weir door is not stuck. Or that the pump basket lid is not tight or the gasket is dry and needs lube.

Does the water in the skimmer look like a toilet bowel being flushed? Does the skimmer go empty or almost empty?

What indicates to you that the pump is sucking air? Tell us more about the problem..
