May seem like a silly question but here goes anyways...
I have a Hayward single speed Super pump that is housed inside my pool shed/bar/change area. Right now there is no switch on it but rather just the 15A breaker. I want to install a switch to take the on/off wear and tear away from the breaker. Do I need an outdoor 15A switch or will any household switch rated for 15A do the job. Not interested in installing a timer at this point

You need a motor rated switch that is rated for at least the THP of your motor.

Motors have high in-rush current at startup and will burn out a normal switch. A pump pulls much more than 15A when the motor starts and then it settles down to less than 15A once running.

Interesting...Pool is 20 years old and the breaker for the pump is 15A. By way of thinking, if the switch needs to be 20A then would the breaker feeding the switch (and pump) not need to be at least that?

I have had no issues with tripped breakers for the pump but appreciate the info for a motor rated switch. I will get one. Thx

No, you need a 15A switch that can handle a larger temporary inrush current. That is a motor rated switch.
