Pool pump schedule

Hey all need help with my schedule to maximize energy savings. I have a Pentair intelliflo 2 VST pump and my energy bills are sky high. My electric utility is PGE in California and is quite expensive, .39/kwh off peak and 49 peak (4pm-9pm) and I get penalized for going higher than than a certain number of kWh a month. My pool is about 25000 gallons and the equipment is about 30-35 feet from floor drain and skimmer. It's a very old pool from the 50s or 60s I believe in great shape but is using copper piping underground. I am also noticing that the priming is taking a long time on the pump and am just using factory settings for priming in the pump.

Need help!

Any suggestions on a good schedule to program?

What is your daily pump schedule now?

You need to run your pump for a reason:
  • Skimming the pool
  • Filtering the pool
  • Mixing chemicals
  • Heating the pool
Run the pump for the least amount of time needed to accomplish the tasks.

No heating, my skimmer has a leak currently so only pulling from main drain. Just wondering if there is a rule of thumb on how long, rpms etc to run to keep costs low. I have to check what my schedule is right now but I think I have it at 2600 rpm for 3 hours a day, 1500rpm for 16 hours, 5 hours rest (during peak times)

No rule of thumb. every pool is different.

If you don't have a heater or SWG you can probably run lower RPMs then 2600 and 1500.

no heater and no swg. Maybe i can do 1250 for 18 hours a day? Should I run a couple hours at higher speed like I have now to get the chemicals moving, does that make sense?

You have to experiment. Run it slow and if you don't get enough cleaning or mixing then try a higher speed until you settle on what is acceptable to you.

I run ~1250 rpms 24/7 at ~190 watts.

Chemical dispersion is likely not a huge concern, at all.
