Hi Everyone
I have a pentair 3VSP
my pool is approximately 13K gallons when you include the attached spa

I know it's not ideal, but when my pool pump is on its normal cycle, the spa fountain turns on with it.
I am unsure #1 - how many hours to run the pool - it's currently 11a-7p
And the amount of RPMs/GPMs to run it at. I have both options. I was running it previously at 54 GPMs to turnover the pool twice, but I know there is myth to requiring that.
If I turn down the RPMs < 2100 or the GPMs < 45, the spa fountain looks pretty lame.
So my question is:
1. Keep schedule as is?
2: Should I change the GPM/RPM setting? Keep it in mind, if it's too low then my spa for 8 hours/day will look odd.
3. Are my handles in proper position, particularly the pool return and skimmer turn? Perhaps if I open the pool return more, that will be better?

Appreciate all of your advice, I am a true novice.
 
It appears you must have some form of automation.
Can you fill out your signature? From that we should have some ideas.
 
With your ET8, you can set up a Spillover function such that you put circulation to the spa only a couple times per day for 30 minutes or so, and the rest of the time you can run your VS pump at a lower rpm to satisfy the SWCG.

Do you have Screenlogic?
 
Spillover use the regular Spa system. I suspect you have a makeup line that needs to be closed if you use the spillover function.

Is the assumption you need to run the fountain and bubblers whenever you run the spa?
I would think you could set the fountain/bubbler valving such that it is off unless you call for it. And then the spa spillover could be functioned without them on. Reduce the rpm when in spa spillover so the jets do not pull in much air.
 
Okay I've been tinkering all day:
I left handles and such as they are.
I created to pool pump scheduled settings Pool and Pool High.
On Pool I have it @ 1770 RPMs: How many hours should I schedule it for?
And on this mode, the floor spa jet is still active, but hardly noticeable and not creating any aeration.
On Pool High @ 2400PM, the floor spa jet is fully active and functional as a fountain, I am going to do 15-30 min twice a day in AM and PM to clear out the debris.
Do you think this is a good plan?
And again, @ 1770 RPMs how many hours should I run it? And will it still Skim okay? I only have 1 skimmer.

Overall you need to run the pump long enough to create the chlorine you need each day. After that, it is for skimming or aesthetics.

You should have a valve that you can turn off the floor jet in the spa. That is a makeup line. With it on, do you have spillover?
 
The valve is on there, but then it will mess up my shelf bubblers, bc it also automates that.

Is it okay to leave as is though? On low flow there is some spillover and when I do the high flow there is more spill over to help skim the surface of the spa better.
 
Yes, I agree, but I feel that turning on all 6 jets even for just 30-60 min will likely lead to even more aeration, thats why I thought this was better, and maybe it isn't, but it's less complicated for me, as I will definitely break something if I tinker with it lol

Is my RPMs okay you think? Should I make the schedule a total of 12 hours? 11 hours of 1700 and 30min x 2 of 2400
 
Do you need 1700 rpm to close the flow switch on your IC40? You might be able to drop it by 200-300 rpm. You do not show a heater in your signature, but I assume you have one.
 
Do you need that high of rpm for your heater? Your rpm's are a lot higher than what i need. So just curious. Am sure it has to do with plumbing, etc.

For instance, my SWCG will function at 1500 rpm, as will my heater.
