My switching valve went bad and sucked my spa dry running my pump dry for who knows how long. I replaced the limit switches and the valve working again, but it appears the pump ran dry too long and now won't pull strong enough to pull the water up to the pump. From what I am seeing my pump has been discontinued so I am looking for a recommendation on a replacement. Pool is aprox 15000 gallons with a spa and water feature. Current pump is a Pentair WhisperFlo 2HP, 230V, 2" inlet and outlet pipes. Salt cell and cartridge style filters.

I have that same pump and did something similar earlier this year while learning my new pool. You probably just burned up the shaft seal. Suggest you try to rebuild before jumping to a new pump. It’s really simple. Find your nearest pool store and purchase a $30 “go kit”. It will include all of the basic seals and o-rings needed to rebuild that pump. That and a little pool grease will get you back up and running in no time.

With that being said, if you’re gonna trash it I’d love it if I could send someone over to grab it from you in Dallas. I'd love to have a spare on hand.

If a pump runs for a long time without water, it can generate enough heat to warp/melt the volute and the seal plate.
I’m aware. I was afraid I did that to mine but got lucky… if I have my brother in law bring it to me it’s no big loss… would still like to have the rest of the parts. That whisperflo is a good pump. I’ll replace mine with a VSP soon enough but i still intend to rebuild the old one to keep on hand as an emergency spare.

Isn’t the calimar a drop in replacement for the whisperflo’s plumbing? Am I recalling that incorrectly?

I believe it did get warped and that's why I'm replacing. I have rebuilt it previously when the seal began to leak. The output pipe is now leaking and is lose. I tried to reseal it thinking that was why it wouldn't pump, but no luck. I doubt it's worth saving.
